The Library's EDI Group

The Library's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Group advocates for equity of experience, access and opportunity for all staff and users and the creation of an environment in which all staff, students and users of the Library's physical and online spaces feel safe and welcome.

The Library's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Group is constituted by members of staff representing all core areas of the Library & University Collections Directorate and includes representatives from related Information Services Group teams. It advocates for equity of experience, access and opportunity for all staff and users and the creation of an environment in which all staff, students and users of the Library's physical and online spaces feel safe and welcome.

The EDI committee represents a central meeting point to discuss and address library and collections wide issues and to build on and support grassroots and team specific activities in this areas. The group currently has three priority strands to help provide the focus needed to undertake this important work which are reviewed on an annual basis.

The three priority strands are:

  1. Access & Inclusion
  2. Anti-Racism
  3. Workforce

Across all three strands and in our wider work, our role is to:

  • Raise the profile of EDI projects and resources to all staff and Library users.
  • Work to Connect local level EDI initiatives with individuals and teams from across the Library.
  • Help to Uplift projects and initiatives from local areas to library-wide impacts wherever possible.
  • Streamline the approvals process for projects that may require management review.
  • Review projects submitted to the group, offering guidance or seeking external guidance when necessary.
