The original collection of material related to Sir Charles Lyell was donated to the University in 1927 by Lady Lyell of Kinnordy. These archives include field notes, lecture notes, correspondence and press cuttings. Some of the geological focus includes Forfarshire, the Madeira and Canary Islands, Mount Etna and New Zealand. These have been catalogued in detail here.

Conservation and archival description work is ongoing in order to provide public access to this collection and a programme of digitisation is being put in place.

A sample of digitised papers can be seen here.
