A Chronological Bibliography of the printed works of Alexander Carmichael published during his lifetime Carmina Gadelica is Alexander Carmichael's masterwork, the culmination of decades of collecting throughout the Highlands. But there is much more of Carmichael in print than Carmina alone. By clicking on the links, you can read Carmichael the newspaper correspondent, the columnist, the essayist, the antiquarian, the ethnographer - and the polemicist. His printed work allows us to examine his changing interests, trace his networks of correspondents, and investigate how his ideas for a folklore collection came together as Carmina Gadelica.
