However, Hugh MacDiarmid's letter of 17 October 1951 and Compton Mackenzie's letter of 19 October 1951 concern Sydney Goodsir Smith's campaign to be elected Rector of Edinburgh University, which was managed by Ian F. Holroyd. Douglas Young's letter of 27 March 1963 concerns the Scottish Renaissance Society’s presentation of the Thomas Urquhart Award to Sydney Goodsir Smith.
