HTML Library Membership University of Edinburgh Libraries are fully open to all categories of external membership. Please wait for our reply before visiting our libraries.* *We may not be able to process your membership if you do not follow these steps.* Membership There are three categories of membership depending on whether you are a Credit or non-Credit student. Membership Notes Reference (consultation only) Free for all COL students. Membership lasts for 1 year. External borrower - non-Credit student A fee applies. Membership lasts for 3, 6 or 12 months. Undergraduate borrower - Credit student Free. Membership lasts for duration of course. External borrower fees What do I need to bring? Please bring the appropriate ID as outlined below. You will be unable to register unless you have all the requested documentation. Membership Documentation Reference (consultation only) Photographic ID AND proof of address.* External borrower - non-Credit student Photographic ID AND proof of address* Undergraduate borrower - Credit student You must apply for your University ID card through the COL. This will also act as your library card. * Proof of address must be dated within the last 3 months. Accepted proof of identity What does my card entitle me to? Details of what your card entitles you to at the University Library can be found on the following page. What does my card entitle me to? Your library card can be used in the Main Library and all site libraries. Access to departmental or class libraries is not available. Library opening hours Library locations Replacement cards (lost, stolen or expired): Reference card holders and external borrowers (non-credit students) If your reference card or external borrower's card is lost, stolen or damaged you can get it replaced with an online payment of £10. Please email library.account@ed.ac.uk for more details. If your card expires you must apply for a new one. Please email library.account@ed.ac.uk and we will send you all the relevant information for a replacement. All required documentation must be provided. All users requiring a new or replacement card should email library.account@ed.ac.uk, to receive further information before visiting. Undergraduate borrower (credit students) If your borrower card is lost, stolen or damaged you can get it replaced for a fee of £10. Please ask at a Card Helpdesk. If your card expires you must apply for a new one. Please note if you are a Credit student and your borrowing card has expired it can only be replaced if your record has been extended by the COL. Card Helpdesks cannot extend expiry dates of cards. Please ask at a Card Helpdesk.
