Programme 6

Programme 6 offers reflective or creative activities as an early intervention for those experiencing mental health challenges.

This programme takes inspiration from heritage as a basis for reflective activities. It is open for referral and self-referral. Membership tends to be those experiencing mental health challenges such as social and general anxiety, depression, stress and burnout and members living with bi-polar and OCD.

Programme 6s are a series of one-hour sessions across a 6-week block and these blocks run three times a year generally across Feb/March, May/June and Oct/Nov.

They are co-designed to be small group (max. 8) to be as accessible and comfortable as possible for those living with social anxiety. Additionally, each session is stand-alone, as we are aware some members may miss a session or two due to health / counselling appointments or being unwell.

We aim to provide a sense of escapism and respite from the day-to-day, by escaping the day, today. The sessions use stories found in the University heritage collections as a gentle springboard into reflecting on contemporary living and further self-discovery.

Prescribe Culture Lead, Ruthanne Baxter, is always happy to speak to any referral partner and/or anyone who has been referred to Programme 6, to talk through some of the background and details in advance of starting a programme, to support accessibility, help reduce any anxiety and increase understanding and confidence.

Please don’t hesitate to email Ruthanne on PrescribeCulture@ed.ac.uk to arrange a time to chat.

Programme 6 gave me calming activities, a much more productive and helpful way to distract myself and relax than I had before. It is a useful addition to other forms of support

As a student from China it made me slow down and know Edinburgh and the UK better in an innovative way, through heritage. During the Prescribe Culture Programme 6 sessions, I was peaceful, less anxious, less stressed, and happier.
