A Carrying Stream

“Maker, ye maun sing them…  Tomorrow, songs  Will flow free again, and new voices  Be borne on the carrying stream.” - Hamish Henderson (1919–2002), poet, songwriter and political activist. Drawing on the Sound Archive of the University of Edinburgh’s School of Scottish Studies Archives, this exhibition explores creative reuse of the archive by new generations of artists working in dialogue with the past. The deep listening experience features new commissions by Scotland-based artists Blair Coron, Fraser MacBeath, and Carla Sayer, offering visitors a sensory journey around Scotland through the sounds of its people and places.
