Protecting your files

It’s important that you take measures to protect your data not only from unwanted intrusion via the internet but if your devices are stolen. Our guidelines will help you make your content safe.

Sadly we live in a society where there are individuals ready, willing and able to take advantage of those that are not so tech savvy, usually for financial gain. The methods used are becoming ever more sophisticated in nature, designed to trick you into releasing private or personal information, or to encourage you to download malware that may gather information from your device without your knowledge. The following guidelines will go some way to help you ensure your files are safe:

  • Consider using open source encryption tools such as VeraCrypt or AxCrypt or if you have a Windows device built with operating systems Vista, 7 or 8 there is a built in encryption tool called BitLocker which you can enable.
  • Use an open source password safe tool to collect all your passwords such as Password Safe, or Keychain for Mac devices.
