Description: From heart-wrenching personal letters to bills of lading for office supplies, this module offers remarkable insight into the early Reconstruction period. The correspondence of the U.S. Army’s Office of Civil Affairs reveal efforts to foster democracy and rebuild communities in the war-torn former Confederate states. Another prominent subject is the fair administration of the election process. Troubles often arose as African Americans prepared to exercise their newly won rights to vote and run for office; many letters in call for military intervention to secure these rights.

Description: Though it’s one of the lesser-known federal agencies, the Children’s Bureau is one of the richest sources for understanding American society and social welfare. The Bureau’s correspondence, research reports, radio scripts, brochures, bills and laws, court hearings and speeches represent the largest collection of primary material for the study of the family and the health and well-being of children in the 20th century; as well, they throw a fascinating light on the way welfare policies affected women.

Rock's Backpages

Description:

Rock's Backpages is the world’s most comprehensive online database of music writing and journalism, sourced from the pages of the music and mainstream press, it is a library of primary source, full-text articles (reviews, interviews, features and more) from the early 1950s to the present day. There are over 40,000 on the site as of July 2019, with over 60 new text articles and one new audio interview added weekly. These feature over six thousand artists and range from 500-word album (or concert) reviews to 10,000-word interviews and features. There are also over 650 (as of July 2019) exclusive, and previously unpublished, audio interviews with major music artists.

Royal College of Physicians Part I

Description:

WDA RCP Part I extends to over 700,000 pages and includes over 7,000 early printed books and more than 100 incunabula from the John Dee collection and Dorchester library. The archive records reflect the RCP’s changing role in setting standards of medical practice and the fellows wide-ranging medical and non-medical interests. As a result, the archives contain an eclectic range of 14th- to 19th-century manuscripts.

All Wiley Digital Archives are available on the same advanced platform designed to power research, support teaching, and foster learning. The platform includes Automated Text Recognition (ATR), downloadable tabular data, digital humanities visualisation tools as well as translation and sharing features to highlight research and support teaching.

Ruth Fulton Benedict Papers

Description: Ruth Fulton Benedict was one of the first women to make major contributions to the study of anthropology and also helped to popularise the subject for wider audiences. A student of Franz Boas, she later became colleagues and close friends with Margaret Mead. Benedict publisher her major work, Patterns of Culture, in 1934, a comparative work that integrated her own work and others. The Ruth Fulton Benedict Papers give access to approximately 8,000 pages from the Benedict archive (held at the Vassar College Archive) and include notes from various field expeditions, including trips with the Pima, Serrano and Zuni throughout the 1930s.
