Musical instruments require regular use to keep them in excellent condition. Common conservation issues of un-played instruments include moving parts such as keys and levers seizing up, and leather changing size as they are no longer subject to moisture. Due to this, the conservation of musical instruments involves keeping them in a playable condition. St Cecilia’s Hall, which houses the musical instrument collection, has recently undergone a renovation project which involved conservation of the entire collection.
