Edinburgh University Library's Andrew Young Papers (Coll-702) include working papers for poems and broadcast scripts, together with letters to literary friends. There are manuscripts of 15 poems sent by Young to the writer and broadcaster John Arlott, together with broadcast scripts for BBC radio programmes written by Young and produced by Arlott. There are also letters from Young to Arlott (1943-70) and to Young's poetic mentor, the Georgian poet John Freeman (1924-28), touching on a wide range of literary, religious, and personal matters, and also reflecting Young's growing interest in botany. The Arlott correspondence also includes cutting of reviews of Young's work by Arlott and of poems by Young published in periodicals. The Andrew Young papers provide an invaluable resource for anyone with a research interest in one of Scotland's finest yet currently most-neglected 20th-century poets.
