Welcome to LHSA. We look after the historically important records of NHS Lothian hospitals and other health-related material, dating from 1594 to the present day. We preserve, interpret and promote these records to increase understanding of the history of health and healthcare in our region. Our collections and services are open to all researchers, including the University of Edinburgh community, NHS Lothian staff, visiting students and academics, and members of the public. Our team provides a professional and specialist, free of charge enquiries service for all researchers and members of the public. If you wish to consult any items from the LHSA collections in-person, you can do so in the Centre for Research Collections Reading Room on the 6th floor of the University’s Main Library. For any LHSA enquiries, please contact LHSA team directly. If you wish to make an appointment to consult any LHSA archive material, please contact us at least a week in advance of your visit so that we can ensure the records are available and ready to consult. We want to make sure that everyone feels welcome and comfortable using our collections and services. AccessAble guides, sensory maps and visual guides are available to help you familiarise yourself with our spaces before and during your visit.
