Why do I have to wait for a book to be available for me to borrow?

Libby is similar to a public library lending service as publishers generally make their books available with only one reader able to access a copy of a book at one time (one copy/one user).

If a book which you want to read is already out on loan to another reader, you can place a hold on it and the Libby app will alert you when it is available for you to borrow.

The Library may be able to purchase multiple copies of very popular books, but we want to provide the widest possible range of titles within our available budget so this may not always be possible.

Many public library services across the UK provide a version of the Libby service and hold very large collections of popular reading.  For example, the Edinburgh City Libraries Libby service is available to all members with an Edinburgh area (EH) postcode and details of how to become a member can be found here .
