Breathing Room: Find Calm in the Heart of the University’s Main Library

More than a hub for academic study, the Main Library is a vibrant community space. As the busiest building on campus, we recognise that it can also be a locus of stress and anxiety, particularly during critical points in the academic year. Breathing Room joins the Library’s existing mental health and wellbeing resources with a new semi-permanent display of heritage collections in the ground floor Exhibition Gallery, designed to provide a peaceful oasis in the midst of a bustling academic environment.

A Space to Breathe

Breathing Room has been curated to promote a sense of community, connection, and calm. By stepping into the gallery, you'll leave the demands of screens and coursework behind and enter a serene environment that seeks to nurture both mind and spirit. Showcasing the University's rich and diverse heritage collections, each item has been carefully chosen for its potential to promote relaxation, spark curiosity, and foster a sense of connection to the wider world.

Connection and Community

We believe that a sense of connection and community is essential for maintaining good mental health and wellbeing. Breathing Room is designed to be a welcoming space to relax and connect with the world around you. Whether you're a student, staff member, or visitor, you'll find a resource for wellbeing support within our walls.
