Description: THE GLOBE AND MAIL is Canada’s largest circulation national newspaper and is typically cited as being “Canada’s Newspaper of Record.” The Globe was founded in 1844 by Scottish immigrant George Brown, a liberal who later became a Father of the Confederation, and in 1936 merged with The Mail and Empire and became The Globe and Mail. While the paper was largely known as a general conservative voice of the business establishment, it did have some liberal sway; an editorial in a 1967 issue coined the phrase “The State has no place in the bedrooms of the nation.” The Globe and Mail, as Canada’s National Newspaper of Record, is a great complement to the historical New York Times with Index.
