Find the resources and content for Week Five of the Capturing Lives project here.

Introduction

This week, we're looking at public art: we'll look at some examples and then create some of our own.

What is public art? Its not always an easy question to answer. Liv Laumenech, Public Art Officer at the University of Edinburgh, tells us what she thinks public art is:

Further Resources

Watch this public art tour from Matthew Jarron, curator at the University of Dundee.

Why not watch some interviews with two of the artists who have created public art work on the University of Edinburgh campus. They tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind their work.  Next week we'll be asking you to research an artist, so if you like, you could choose one of these two and use what you learn in the video.

Talks this week

A reminder that Holly Yeoman from the Edinburgh Arts Festival will be giving a talk about what they do as an arts organisation and the public art work they are trying to commission on Monday 13th of July at 3pm - 4pm

Sarah Burry-Hayes, coordinator of University Museums in Scotland (UMIS), will give a talk about what UMIS is, and what the different instutions involved in it do, on Thursday 16th July at 2pm.

These talks are optional but are a good opportunity to complete the 'Research an Arts Organisation' activity if you haven't already done it. I'll post the link for the talks in our Team. Enjoy the activities and let us know if you have any questions!
