Edinburgh Libraries Passport (ELP)

University of Edinburgh Library is a member of the Edinburgh Libraries Passport (ELP) reciprocal access scheme. The scheme provides access to more than 20 library services in Edinburgh.

Library Membership

From Monday 7th February 2022 University of Edinburgh Libraries are fully open to all categories of external membership.

Please apply to access the library by e-mailing: library.account@ed.ac.uk (Please include in your email your existing card reference number starting ‘200..’ if applicable).

We will reply to you with important information for access within 7 days. Please wait for our reply before visiting our libraries.*

The Passport may be used to:

  • Consult books and journals
  • Use study facilities
  • Search catalogues
  • Make use of staff guidance and expertise
  • Access Special Collections and Archives

Visitors to University of Edinburgh Library

Visitors with an Edinburgh Libraries Passport (ELP) should bring along the appropriate ID as outlined below.

Membership Documentation
Reference (consultation only) ELP plus photographic ID 
External borrower* ELP plus photographic ID

 

University of Edinburgh staff and students

Students and staff of University of Edinburgh should register for a Passport at any University of Edinburgh Library site.

Please note that in the Main Library registration is only possible during Helpdesk staffed hours.
