Library books showcased for Black History Month in our Main Library display Image Black History Month books on display in the Main Library For the first time since before the pandemic, we have been able to put together a physical display of books for Black History Month. The display will run throughout October and showcases items available in the library from authors such as Malorie Blackman, Zora Neale Hurston, Barack Obama, Maya Angelou, Zadie Smith and Benjamin Zephaniah. There are books on historical figures like Jamaica-born Mary Seacole, who volunteered to help the sick and wounded of the Crimean war; abolitionist, Harriet Tubman, whose famous 'underground railroad' saved the lives of around 70 enslaved people and historian and civil rights activist, W. E. B. DuBois. An online Black History Month Resource List compiled by the Library Learning Services team complements the physical display. Among the titles available are 'Black and British' by David Olusoga; 'Game of Privilege: An African American History of Golf' by Lane Demas and 'They can't kill us all. The story of Black Lives Matter' by Wesley Lowery. There’s a QR code to access it on the display signage which also has a QR link to the Race and Decolonial Studies Guide which contains information on library resources and services relating to race, critical race studies and decolonial work.
